Expressing Niyyah in the following words is optional. We can say Allahu Akbar and express our Niyyah in these words if we like, or we can say Allahu Akbar and begin our Salat with the Thana’.
‘I have turned my face toward Him Who created the heavens and the earth, being ever inclined to God, and I am not of those who associate gods with God.’
