The Universal Declaration of Human Rights adopted by the General Assembly of the United Nation on December 10, 1948 embodies the broadest consensus of contemporary civilisation on the subject of Human Rights. This booklet attempts a comparative study of Islam and The Declaration. The presentation of Islamic values is based almost entirely upon the Holy Quran and the Sunnah of the Holy Prophet of Islam, the two most authentic and authoritative sources available for the purpose. The references to the Holy Quran are cited in the text; all other references are added in the footnotes.
To assist the reader towards a fuller comprehension of the main thesis the Introductory Chapter is followed by a brief outline of Islamic teachings on man and the Universe, Social values and Economic values.
